Escaped Murderer Morley Sought; $2,500 Reward (Oct. 27 BenQQ) Authorities are searching for Jacob Allen Morley, 28, who escaped Sunday night from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville while serving a life sentence for killing Cody Birchfield. The Tennessee Department of Correction says he is on TBI’s Most Wanted list, is considered dangerous and carries a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest. Action News 5 reported that he stole a white 2008 Ford F-350 bearing Tennessee plate 138BBQV and “Lindamood Planting Company” lettering. Anyone spotting him should stay away and call 911 or 1-800-TBI-FIND.

One Killed, Two Wounded in Hickory Hill Club Shooting — Memphis police said three men were shot after an altercation outside a club on Mount Moriah Road near Kirby Parkway at about 2:50 a.m. One victim died at the scene; another was hospitalized in critical condition and the third in non-critical condition. A roughly 6-foot-tall man with blond locks, wearing a gray jogging suit, was being sought and no arrest had been announced, as reported by Action News 5.

Woman Shot Outside Northaven Convenience Store — A woman was shot Sunday night in the parking lot of the Penny Pantry on Breckenwood Drive, then taken by private vehicle to Shelby County Fire Station 67 shortly after 8:30 p.m. She was transported to Regional One Health in non-critical condition, while the suspect fled and remained at large, as revealed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Six Shot Outside Oakhaven Nightclub (Oct. 24 BenQQ) Six people were hospitalized after gunfire outside a nightclub near Winchester and Old Tchulahoma roads around 2 a.m. today; three were in critical condition, Action News 5 reported today, citing Memphis police. Police said an altercation appeared to trigger the shooting and one man was detained. The investigation remains open.

Two Found Dead in Fox Meadows Apartment (Oct. 24 BenQQ) Officers making a welfare check at the Residences at Lakeview around 1:45 p.m. yesterday found two people with gunshot wounds; both died at the scene, Action News 5 reported yesterday. Memphis police said the investigation remains active.

Final Suspect Arrested in Deadly South Memphis Gas-Station Shooting The Memphis Safe Task Force arrested Dequarius Nash, 30, on first-degree murder, five aggravated-assault and firearm charges in the March 28 killing of Kendarish Conrad at the In & Out Express on South Bellevue Street. Authorities said Nash was taken into custody Wednesday on West Oak Branch Circle and announced the development Thursday; the charges are allegations, not convictions, as revealed by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Man Returns Fire During Midtown Car Break-In A man told Memphis police that suspects shot at him after waking him while trying to break into his vehicle behind a Madison Avenue business shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday. He returned fire, was treated for hand lacerations and was taken to a hospital in non-critical condition; the suspects remained at large, as reported by Action News 5.

Convicted Fugitive Captured After Mistaken Jail Release Shelby County deputies and U.S. Marshals captured Anthony Green, 25, Wednesday afternoon in the 3300 block of Knights Trail, more than a year after he was mistakenly released from custody. Authorities said Green had been convicted in September 2025 in a 2020 murder case but was released before the jail received and processed the verdict information, as reported by WSMV.
Two Charged in May Hamilton Street Robbery-Murder; One Caught in Cleveland (Arrests Oct. 5 and Oct. 7)

The Memphis Police Department announced arrests in the May 4 killing of a man in the 800 block of Hamilton Street, where a woman was also shot and left in critical condition. Jada Garrett, 22, was taken into custody Oct. 5 and faces first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery and a firearm-during-felony count. Mardracus Cooper, 19, was arrested Oct. 7 in Cleveland, Ohio by the MPD Fugitive Unit and partner agencies and is awaiting extradition. He faces seven counts, including first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

MPD Seeks Rifle-Armed Suspect in Raleigh Shooting Memphis police released surveillance footage Tuesday and asked for help identifying a suspect in an Oct. 9 apartment-complex shooting in the 4200 block of Ridgestone Drive that wounded two juveniles. Police said one victim was hospitalized in critical condition and the other in non-critical condition; the suspect was shown carrying an AR-style rifle, and no arrest had been announced, as reported by Action News 5.

Paradise Lounge Guard Shoots Man After Reported Gun Display A licensed security guard shot a man outside Paradise Lounge in Hickory Hill early Sunday after the man allegedly returned to the club and displayed a handgun; the wounded man was taken to Regional One in non-critical condition. Police questioned the guard and three other men and recovered a Glock 19 with an extended magazine, but no charges had been announced, as reported by WREG News Channel 3 Monday morning.
Millington police investigate fatal apartment shooting (Oct. 19 BenQQ) Millington police are investigating a man’s fatal shooting Sunday at the Commodore Apartments on Highway 51, Action News 5 reported today.
Police identified a person of interest and believe the victim and shooter knew each other, the station reported. Investigators said there was no continuing threat to the public. The report did not identify the victim or establish whether anyone had been charged.
West Memphis shooting suspect arrested after barricade: Chandler Williams was taken into custody after a woman reported he fired into her vehicle on Spears Street, wounding her in the back and left elbow, NEA Report reported today, citing police. Officers responded around 3 a.m.; the woman was treated at Regional One Medical Center. Police said their Special Response Team took Williams into custody after he barricaded himself inside the residence. The investigation remains active.
North Mississippi drug operations net 16 arrests: Operations in Southaven Oct. 14 and Tupelo Oct. 15 produced six felony arrests, five misdemeanor arrests and five DUI arrests, Action News 5 reported today, citing Attorney General Lynn Fitch. Authorities also reported six ICE detainers and the recovery of a juvenile runaway. The figures combine both operations; they do not mean every arrest involved a fentanyl charge.
Pinch District death remains under investigation: Memphis police found a man dead in the 400 block of North Main Street around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, WREG reported in an article updated yesterday. Officers were responding to a man-down call, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The report did not establish foul play or identify the death as a homicide.

Man Booked on Child-Endangerment and Domestic-Assault Charges Shawn McMillan, 28, was booked into the Shelby County Jail Sunday on child-abuse and neglect-or-endangerment counts involving children under 8, along with aggravated-assault and domestic-assault charges. Police allege that during a July dispute in a Raleigh apartment, McMillan assaulted his girlfriend and sprayed her, a 4-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl with a chemical self-defense spray; the charges are allegations, not convictions, as reported by WREG News Channel 3.
$500,000 bond in shooting at officers: Dalvin Johnson, 32, faces three attempted first-degree murder counts after allegedly firing at Memphis officers during an Oct. 9 foot chase from a Save-A-Lot parking lot on Kimball Avenue, Action News 5 reported Oct. 13, citing an affidavit. One round struck inside a nearby Taco Bell with employees present. Officers returned fire, wounding Johnson; no officers or bystanders were injured. Johnson also faces reckless endangerment, evading arrest and a firearm charge. His bond was set at $500,000, and TBI is investigating.
Two arrested in Hamilton Street homicide: Jada Garrett, 22, and Mardracus Cooper, 19, were arrested in connection with a May 4 shooting that killed a man and critically wounded a woman in the 800 block of Hamilton Street, Memphis Police said. Garrett was arrested Oct. 5; Cooper was captured Oct. 7 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was awaiting extradition in MPD’s announcement. Both face first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery and firearm charges. Cooper additionally faces aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and theft charges.

(Oct. 17 BenQQ) Two indicted in Ioka Avenue killing: A Shelby County grand jury indicted Michael Wallace and Jetarius Young, 28, Oct. 8 in Kendruss Moore’s killing, Action News 5 reported yesterday. Both face first-degree premeditated murder and murder during a robbery charges; Young also faces a firearm charge. Memphis Police said the victim was shot June 25 in the 700 block of Ioka Avenue and died at a hospital. The charges are accusations, not findings of guilt.

North Graham homicide—new police appeal today: MPD released surveillance images today of two armed suspects sought in Sunday’s fatal shooting in the 1400 block of North Graham Street near Bayliss Avenue. Officers found a man shot inside a white Toyota Camry; he later died at a hospital. The suspects were last seen running toward Debbidan Cove, MPD reported today; anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.

Passenger killed after driver allegedly flees task-force stop. The Memphis Safe Task Force said Tennessee Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop Justin Thomas, 32, near West Shelby Drive and South Third Street, but he fled and crashed into four vehicles near West Levi Road. Passenger Renisha Thompson was ejected and killed, while Thomas and two other motorists were injured; Thomas is being charged with vehicular manslaughter, drug possession, speeding and fleeing law enforcement, as revealed by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Task force reports two homicide-warrant arrests. Taeveon Smith, 19, was arrested in Covington on warrants including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder stemming from a March 29 West Shelby Drive shooting that killed one man and injured two others. Tamela Taylor, 23, was arrested separately on vehicular-homicide and related warrants and taken to the Shelby County Jail, as revealed by the U.S. Marshals Service; both cases remain allegations rather than convictions.
Man dies after overnight Autumn Ridge shooting. Memphis police found an adult man shot near Winchester and Ross roads shortly after midnight; he was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died, as reported by Action News 5. One person was detained at the scene, but police had not announced an arrest or charge by noon.

Task force reports major sex-offense and meth arrests. Christopher Harris, 38, was arrested on an outstanding aggravated-rape warrant after a woman alleged that he had kidnapped her and was assaulting her when officers arrived; additional kidnapping and rape charges were pending. In a separate case, Juan Leal-Nunez, 25, was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine after officers reported finding about 43.5 pounds in his luggage, as revealed by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Police release details in apartment-complex shooting. Memphis police said three masked gunmen opened fire on people outside an apartment in the 1400 block of Briercrest Lane on October 5, leaving one victim critically wounded. The suspects—armed with two handguns and a rifle—fled east on Corning Avenue from Gowan Drive, as revealed by the Memphis Police Department; no arrest has been announced.

(Oct. 12) Woman wounded in Jib Cove shooting: A woman was taken to a hospital in noncritical condition after officers responded at 3:03 a.m. today to the 2900 block of Jib Cove in Hickory Hill, Action News 5 reported today, citing Memphis police. MPD said the incident connects to another scene on Mount Moriah Road; no suspect information was available in the report.
Jury convicts man in 2024 killing outside Midtown bar. A Shelby County jury found Edward “Eddie” Wurl guilty of first-degree murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun in the killing of Blake Rhea outside Louis Connelly’s bar in November 2024, as revealed by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office. Jurors deliberated for eight minutes, and sentencing remains pending.

(Oct. 12) One killed, another critical near Kirby and Quince: Officers found two men with gunshot wounds after responding shortly before 9 p.m. yesterday near Kirby and Quince roads, HERE Memphis reported today, citing MPD. One man died at the scene and the other was hospitalized in critical condition. Police detained six people; the initial updates did not identify suspects, announce charges or explain a motive.
(Oct. 12) Teen critically wounded in northeast Shelby County: Deputies found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound after responding shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday on Northwood Hills Drive, Action News 5 reported yesterday, citing the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies began providing aid, and county firefighters transported him to Regional One Health in critical condition. The Sheriff’s Office said the shooting remains under investigation.
(Oct. 12) Man shot dead near Flowering Peach and Mendenhall: Police found a man with a gunshot wound after responding about 12:34 a.m. yesterday near Flowering Peach Drive and Mendenhall Road, HERE Memphis reported today, citing MPD. Getwell Road shooting becomes homicide; suspect charged. A man shot Friday night in the 2700 block of Getwell Road later died, and police arrested 23-year-old Jaylen Conner on charges of second-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, as revealed by the Memphis Police Department. The charges are allegations, and Conner has not been convicted.

Police close Airways Boulevard hotel after persistent criminal activity. Memphis Police, city officials and the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office closed Budget Host Inn & Suites at 2745 Airways Blvd. under nuisance-abatement authority, as revealed by the Memphis Police Department. MPD said officers answered 792 calls there during a two-year period, generating 166 reports and 71 arrests; calls included armed-person complaints, robberies, carjackings and four shootings in which victims were hit.
MPD reports a 27% drop in major crime during the third quarter. Part 1 crime fell 27% from the same quarter in 2025, while the department’s homicide clearance rate reached 88% through September, as revealed by the Memphis Police Department. MPD also said Operation Pressure Point produced 246 arrests—including 208 felony arrests—and recovered 60 firearms, while interstate shootings were down 47% in 2026.

Two men wounded in Whitehaven shooting. Officers responding near the 3000 block of Winbrook Drive around 8:45 p.m. found two men with gunshot wounds, as reported by Action News 5. One victim was hospitalized in critical condition and the other in noncritical condition; a man was detained, but police had not announced charges.

Shelby County jail inmate dies; homicide investigation opened. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office launched a homicide investigation after an inmate was found fatally injured at 201 Poplar and later died, as reported by The Daily Memphian. The death occurred Tuesday morning, and the investigation remained active.

Frayser shooting leaves one man critical; two detained. Officers found a man critically wounded after responding shortly before 2 a.m. to the 1400 block of Briercrest Lane, as reported by WREG News Channel 3. Police detained two men, but no charges had been announced by noon and the investigation remained active.

Kirby Parkway shooting becomes fatal. One of the two men critically wounded in Saturday night’s shooting died shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, as reported by WREG News Channel 3. Police continued searching for three armed men who reportedly fled in ski masks and dark clothing; no arrests had been announced.
Pedestrian critically injured in Crump Boulevard hit-and-run. A driver struck a man shortly after 7 p.m. near E.H. Crump Boulevard and South Camilla Street and left the scene, as reported by Action News 5. The victim was hospitalized in critical condition, and police had not released a vehicle description.

Three masked gunmen sought after Kirby Parkway double shooting. Two men were shot near the 2900 block of Kirby Parkway around 9 p.m., prompting police to block northbound lanes at Mount Moriah Road Extended, as reported by WREG News Channel 3. Both victims were hospitalized in critical condition, and police said three armed men wearing ski masks and dark clothing fled the scene, as reported by Action News 5; no arrests had been announced by noon Sunday.

Shooting suspect found hiding in dryer. Memphis police arrested Branden Scott, 36, after officers found him hiding in a dryer at a Creekwood Drive home, as reported by Action News 5. Scott faces attempted second-degree murder and firearm charges in the Sept. 26 Eastline Drive shooting; police also charged Arian Henry, 27, with false reporting for allegedly lying about Scott’s whereabouts.

Four charged after armed-robbery and auto-theft investigation. Memphis police arrested three adults and a 16-year-old and recovered three firearms, two fitted with machine-gun conversion devices, as revealed by the Memphis Police Department. Police charged the suspects with combinations of prohibited-weapon possession, theft, evading arrest and unlawful handgun possession; the charges are allegations, not convictions.
Task force seizes nearly 30,000 synthetic-kratom packages. Agents raided an alleged major distributor at 3090 Broad Street in Memphis and searched a related Collierville location Thursday, seizing nearly 30,000 packages of products authorities described as illegal synthetic kratom, as reported by ABC24. Officials announced the results of the multiweek undercover operation Thursday morning; no Shelby County arrests had been announced by noon.

Memphis auto thief sentenced for possessing a machine-gun switch. A federal judge sentenced Tavious Bruce, 21, to 18 months in prison for possessing a loaded Glock fitted with a machine-gun conversion device while sitting in a stolen Porsche SUV, as revealed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee. Bruce received the sentence after his conviction; federal authorities said the gun had an extended magazine and was within his reach.

Gun drawn during fight at Memphis Zoo. Police detained five people after a dispute between two visiting groups escalated and a man allegedly displayed a firearm during the zoo’s free-admission Tuesday, as reported by La Prensa Latina. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Police seek suspects in Shelby Oaks business burglary. Memphis police released surveillance details Monday showing one suspect entering Nolan Audio Visual at 6225 Shelby Oaks through a cut in a sliding bay door while a second suspect loaded stolen flat-screen televisions into a white van, as revealed by MPD. The burglary occurred early Sunday, and no arrests had been announced.
Teen critically wounded confronting car thieves. A juvenile was shot and critically injured after he and his father confronted two armed people trying to steal a vehicle outside their Hickory Hill home early Monday, as reported by Action News 5. Police said the suspects fired as the father and son yelled from the doorway, then fled; no arrest had been announced by noon.

Roommate charged in fatal North Memphis shooting. Memphis police found a man fatally shot in the 2100 block of Brookline Road Sunday afternoon, as reported by ABC24. Investigators said the shooting followed an argument between roommates; Darren Crawford, 60, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The charge is an allegation, not a conviction.

Guilty pleas entered in fatal South Memphis quadruple shooting. Je’On Davis pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun in connection with the March 2024 shooting on Quinn Avenue that killed Tamara Plummer and wounded three others, including an 11-year-old girl. Davis had initially been charged with first-degree murder, as reported by Action News 5.

Federal sentence imposed in Cordova smoke-shop robbery and shooting. Marquis Davis was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for discharging a firearm during the 2025 robbery of Exotic Smoke Shop, where an employee was shot after refusing a sale because Davis was under 21. Suspect sought after critical Millington shooting
A victim was hospitalized in critical condition after a domestic-related shooting at a Bateman Road home in Millington. Trunk Party Shooting Victim Identified as Rising Memphis Doctor: Update from previous post: the woman fatally shot at a Northeast Memphis "trunk party" over the weekend has been identified as Dr. Shandrika Hayslett, 34, according to La Prensa Latina Media, which cited state Rep.-elect Telisa Franklin. Hayslett, who had earned her doctorate in May, died at the scene on Brookins Street after gunfire erupted at a party celebrating a relative's college acceptance. Memphis Safe Task Force Arrests 30, Including Two Wanted for Murder: The Memphis Safe Task Force arrested 30 people Tuesday, including two men wanted for murder and two more charged in child sex crimes, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Albert Boyce, 25, and Decoreion McDowell, 25, were each taken into custody on outstanding second-degree murder warrants, while Jose Navarro, 37, and Terence Gray, 68, were arrested on charges including aggravated rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery.
